Old and Downtown Sacramento: January 22, 2011

We ventured into Old Sacramento, which is a National Historic Landmark District and State Historic Park.  It dates back to 1848 with the discovery of gold, it was the last stop on the Pony Express route, transcontinental railroad terminal, and housed the original California Supreme Court Chambers.
Hope you enjoy, because we sure did!

Cobblestone road!

Old Union Pacific Railcar

 The Pony Express Monument

We ate at Annabelle's

Monument for the Engineer of the Railroad.

After lunch at Annabelle's, we walked through an underground tunnel to take us to Downtown Sacramento, where the Capitol building resides.

Beautiful murals in the tunnel...

Open-air mall immediately once you enter Downtown...

Another ice rink!  We are 3 for 3 (even though this one was taken down)!

Old mission-style Church

An orange tree!

Purple Heart Memorial

Convention Center and crazy fountain outside of it!

Outside of the Masonic Temple

After some time spent in Downtown, we ventured back into Old Sac for the sunset!

We had ice cream overlooking the Sacramento River as the sun set!

The Sacramento River and the pyramid-like building is called "The Money Store"

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Brian, Happy Birthday to you!

Someone turned 26 on Monday and thanks to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., he had off from work too!

Birthday Breakfast of Champions and a roaring fire!

Brian Balloons!  I found them at Party City!

Oh no, he's flying away...

Preparing the Birthday meal, Chicken Parmesan, Rigatoni,
Spaghetti Squash, Salad and Garlic Bread....Yum!

Let us explain...the lid on the pan removed a nice big chunk
of the cake when we took it off to put the candles on...I was slightly more than devastated....

Birthday Boy with his demented cake!

"Happy Birthday to you..."
